Parting Ways With Your Nanny

Most nanny arrangements will finish around a particular milestone for your children or your family. Your children may be starting pre-school, or they may be growing more independent with their school routine. Most parents will understand how long they intend to engage a nanny, but it’s a good idea to set expectations at the beginning of any engagement.

Every engagement needs to have a notice period in the contract. While this is a legal obligation, it’s also a courtesy for everyone involved. It can be disruptive for both the family and the nanny if either party decides to end the arrangement earlier than expected. So a good piece of advice is to “have the conversation before you need to have the conversation”.

I hope that has helped you understand the phases of having a nanny. It can be the most rewarding experience when you find a nanny that’s the right fit for your family, and while you may develop a close connection, it is ultimately a working relationship. As long as everyone is engaged with respect, you should have a wonderfully fulfilling engagement.
